Ok.. so what have you heard then?
we're shutting next week? shutting in 3 weeks? got till xmas then thats it?
well.. here's how it is.. we're open, we're trading, business as usual, bands booked up till xmas and no plans to cancel them, hiring staff, ordering stock etc etc the list goes on.. but..
whats brought round these rumours?
well simply.. since 2008 has come around the town has got very quiet at the weekends (credit crunch, gas elec up 35%, fuels thru the roof etc) and a decision was made to close thursdays and sundays as they weren't particularly worth it.. (bearing in mind Jaks closed down on a sunday well before we did {approx 4 months before} as no one went).
since then fridays have got quiet and saturdays have got less busier.. but as we know, folk in dumfries cant seem to enjoy themselves in a pub / club unless its busy.. so most folk now go to the granary, queensbury or jaks as its a fair chance it will be busy.. What you got to remeber is folks, is The Venue is a local company, not a big commercial giant.. we do cheap entry and good deals on decent drink, and it was pointed out that simply, if you dont use The Venue more, youl loose it.. Same as all the smaller pubs in the town.. like baker street or other locally run bits.. So, if the Venue does go.. what happens? well.. theres no plan to sell it to a nightclub giant and turn it into some fucking big super club.. nor is there a chance that the licensing board will allow a company to come in and transfer an old buliding into a new club, as the new licensing laws will rule on over provision, its more likely to be developed into flats like Chill is becoming.. so basically you would have jaks and chancers left.. chancers will always be chancer and probably never change, and jaks, well seen as the biggest competition have been wiped out.. well why not hike the door charge right up (even more than the £7 they charge at the moment) and same with the drink.. as now they can afford to do it.. the big guys come along with intent on wiping out the competition and then screw you over in the end too..
SO basically.. it was pointed out.. use it or lose it.. that was it.. remember the local guys in the town next time your on a night out. Not only will you lose a nightlclub forever, but you'll also lose Dumfries's only concert hall too.. whether it was to see a local band like Reginald or tauntra, a tribute act like The Complete Stone Roses, a famous act like Youmeatsix or to use it for band practise.

right, a trip to the attic to re-disocover my tapes was much in need, sick of the same old shit, i decided to go back to the same old shit years ago.. lol.. so recently after spending a fortune on albums i aready owned on tape on itunes.. i came across an old tape of radio 1.. radio 1's most wanted circa 1998 with (i think) Mark Goodier..
i came across a few songs in which they didnt tell you what it was called (as usual) and not that im saying the songs are any good, but is bugging my happiness as to who sang them, and for some resason where i could get a hold of them for ipod useage..
one has the lyrics..
"i couldnt hurt myself, myslelf or no one else, these lines are way to dull and much too slow." and goes on about "when molly makes love like a boy"
bit weird but its catchy.. if it was "the most wanted" some one must know it..
other is a kinda reggae song about "whether you whine or grine" which repeats a lot.. apparently it was in a jeans commercial
another is a song about california, not the OC song or the red hot chilli peppers, has the lyrics "and when the sheets get to hard they cause insomnia, in california, ah ha getting so run down, feeling so run down in california"

well last week i was off coz alison was down from edinburgh so we went out... i think this possibly could have been the best night out i've had in years.. went out round the town with alison susan and wee lee.. then met up with carole mark caroline and sean in the venue.. the music was excellent and we all danced for and hour and a half solid.. i've never seen such a great atmosphere.. so much so we were all on the podium givin it all we've got.. LOL!
This week i was off again coz it was paul and jane's birthday.. went for a meal then it was straight down the sands like the old days.. call me sad, but we had an excellent night reminiscing about the times we were there 7 nights a week, what with the old music.. encore un fois, robert miles and dj supreme (pure junction music), lol, and the old pizzeria order pad i had from when i worked there with our "tour de france piss-take-telephone-calls" we were in stitches.. doin the circuit and driving aimlessly for hours kept us occupied.. after that it was time to hit the town and ended up in the sky bar till 3 dancing relentlessly to kanye west as cathy badgered us to have it played all night..
think that will be me for a while.. all spent out for now me thinks..

We are doing a U.K-wide battle of the bands and were hoping to do a heat in Dumfries. I was hoping we could use The Venue?
I'm not entirely sure whether you hire out the Venue or not, but it would be perfect for what we're wanting to do.

haya mate u dnt nw me but iv jst resently cum bk frm scotland southerness wz were i wz id been 2 the venue on alot of accasions and nw all the doorman i also nw martin hes a good lad hope things pick up cuz it would be a shame 2 see it go i ast martin 2 gt me a job at the venue once bt ofcourse he hs a forgetfull mind lol xx
